OCTOBER 2024
WELCOME from the CEO
Several times a year, you see us celebrating a member of our team who has earned a new industry designation – a credential that denotes they’ve achieved a top educational standard for our profession.
The insurance industry is complex, and there are only a handful of undergraduate programs that focus on risk management. That means we’re typically hiring associates who have no prior knowledge in our industry. Instead, we focus on finding talented, smart, hard-working people who are excited about learning our business and helping our clients, and we assist them in obtaining the advanced education they need.
While expertise can be gained in a lot of ways, we think there are some key designations that separate those who are committed to specializing in risk management and client service from those who are not. Educational programs such as Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Registered Employee Benefits Consultant (REBC), Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR), or Associate in Risk Management (ARM) provide a much broader industry perspective and depth of understanding, and they make us better equipped to serve you.
These designations require hours of coursework, along with the successful completion of multiple exams, and they often can take several years to finish. It’s an investment we think is necessary, and we ask every member of our team who works with clients to earn a designation early in their career.
We do that because we believe our team is our competitive advantage, and we believe the continued development of our team is critical to our ability to provide you with advising you can trust and service you can count on. Ultimately, our goal is to be experts in our craft – because that’s how we add the most value for you and your business.
As always, all of us at Schauer Group are incredibly grateful for your continued support. We couldn’t do what we do without the backing of our dedicated clients and community partners. Reach out any time with questions or issues.
Sincerely,
Joseph D. Schauer
President & CEO
NEWS & UPDATES
In partnership with Beese Fulmer Private Wealth Management: High-net-worth individuals have an elevated risk of being targeted by cybercriminals, and while they might have mechanisms in place to keep their assets secure, they may be overlooking the critical role cybersecurity can play in safeguarding their wealth.
As you prepare for the upcoming open enrollment and renewal period, the employee benefits team at Schauer Group is here to help. We know the process can be complicated, and we’ve got resources from our team of benefits experts that are designed to help you successfully navigate your renewal.
When GAR Foundation needed a risk management partner who would advocate for them in the insurance marketplace and help navigate the challenges that come with owning a historical building, the team turned to Schauer Group.

Private client advisor Connor Daugherty serves as an associate board member for the Hunger Network, an organization dedicated to providing emergency food supplies and hot meals to Cleveland-area residents in need.
I have the opportunity to serve on the associate board of the Hunger Network, an organization that has been committed to ending hunger and improving the health of the Cleveland community for more than 25 years. The Hunger Network offers hunger relief through hot meals and pantries across the region, and it also operates a “food rescue” program, which uses volunteers to pick up good food that otherwise would go to waste and deliver that food to hunger centers.
As an associate board member, I work with other young professionals to support fundraising efforts and strengthen partnerships with local organizations. We have monthly meetings where we strategize how to engage the community to continue the efforts of the Hunger Network and the solutions it provides. I also serve on the Hunger Network’s golf committee and help bring additional support to a key fundraising event for the organization.
In Cuyahoga County, about 190,000 people face food insecurity – meaning they don’t always know where their next meal will come from, and they don’t always have enough food to eat. The Hunger Network matters to our community because it provides a critical safety net for those individuals and families facing food insecurity, ensuring that no one goes hungry. By offering access to nutritious meals, the organization helps improve the health and well-being of those who might otherwise struggle to afford food. Additionally, it helps reduce food waste by redistributing surplus food, which benefits both the environment and those in need.
